The Goals of the Conference
The European Conference for Clinical Nanomedicine is the annual scientific conference uniting clinicians and nanoscientists who have the common vision to apply nanoscience methods, tools and materials to the benefit of the patient. It is a conference with European emphasis and international participation.
First of its kind in combining a strong clinical focus with leading edge technology and science, it has proven to be a very fruitful platform for problem- and solution- oriented discussion between physicians, scientists and engineers:
- What unsolved medical problems actually need novel approaches for prevention, diagnosis or therapy?
- What novel nanoscience-based methods are in development or ready for preclinical or clinical application in medicine?
- What late breaking and ongoing clinical trials shed new light on the key question of nanomedicine - the benefit for the patient?
- What are the promises, potential problems, and wider implications for the individual and society of such nanomedical approaches?
The faculty of this conference includes the pioneers and opinion leaders of the field, both from science and medicine, who share their experience and interact in a strongly interdisciplinary manner that widens the mutual understanding for both sides.
The European Conference for Clinical Nanomedicine 2009, will be held from April 26-29, 2009 at the Basel Convention Center
Impressions from the conference 2008
The European Conference for Clinical Nanomedicine 2008 has laid a strong fundament for the successful collaboration between clinical physicians and academic Nanomedicine.
170 participants from 20 countries joined this first conference in which the CLINAM-DEBATE METHOD® was applied, which gave a lot of time for open interdisciplinary discussions. All speakers of the conference committed themselves to short presentations coming within 10 minutes to the point of their speech. After that there was some minutes for answering first questions and after each conference block 45 minutes reserved for the interactive debate, questions statements and reflexions by all participants and all speakers. With 50% of clinicians this meeting was the first Nanomedical conference that discussed the issue from the clinical viewpoint. The conference led on a high level to an excellent exchange of knowledge and know-how between the medical doctors, chemists, physicists, biologists and pharmacologists as well as with the technologists. This first meeting has shown the limits and horizon of the promises of nanomedical tools, techniques, and materials in the context of prevalent and unsolved medical problems, e.g. diagnosis and therapy of cancer, cardiovascular disease, inflammation, infection, degenerative and neurological disease, as well as nanomedicine applications for molecular imaging, bedside biomarker testing and monitoring technologies, also addressing questions of toxicity, ethics, societal and environmental impact. The programme of the 2008 conference are still available online. - If you wish further informations about the conference 2008 please contact the organisers.
